Maggie Buchwald has been a consultant to nonprofit
organizations since 1997, bringing her more than seventeen years of experience
to her clients in the arts and education sectors. She is an expert with in-depth

and strategic planning.
Current and former consulting clients include the Alliance of Resident Theatre/

and Choreographers Foundation, The Ensemble Studio Theatre, Teatro alla Scala
Foundation- USA, The Brooklyn Historical Society, Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival,
and the Arts and Business Council.
Prior to launching her consulting practice, Ms. Buchwald held senior positions
at some of New York’s major cultural and educational institutions. She began her
fundraising career at the Arts and Business Council, specializing in corporate
fund development. From there, she moved to American Ballet Theatre, at that time
under the artistic leadership of Mikhail Baryshnikov, to oversee corporate and
foundation giving. While at ABT, Ms. Buchwald was promoted to the position of
Director of the Golden Anniversary Campaign, the first of three major capital
campaigns that she has managed.
In 1988, she moved to New York City’s premiere public television station
Thirteen/WNET, becoming Director of Development. When the station undertook a
$65 million capital campaign --the largest among Public Broadcasting Service
stations-- she assumed the additional role of its director. In this capacity,
she secured a nucleus fund of lead gifts, established and staffed a trustee
steering committee, and managed the public launch of the campaign which included
a live on-air broadcast and press conference. At Thirteen, Ms. Buchwald oversaw
a staff of 20, securing annual revenues in excess of $5 million. She established
a planned giving program and a major gifts program, doubling the number of
$1000+ donors to the station. While at Thirteen, she also served on a task force
of major gifts specialists for the PBS system, consulting for smaller stations
around the country.
In 1992, Ms. Buchwald joined New York University Medical Center as Executive
Director of its Capital Campaign. In this role she managed fundraising
initiatives for a $325 million comprehensive campaign comprising capital and
endowment gifts, as well as major gifts for current uses in both the NYU
hospitals and its medical school. She worked extensively with the Board of
Trustees, its Campaign Chairman, and its Steering Committee. Additionally, she
supervised 18 development staff members and personally recruited many of them.
Ms. Buchwald graduated from Cornell University, where she was elected to Phi
Beta Kappa. She is active in community service in New York, and chairs the board
of the Dicapo Opera Theatre. She is currently President of Women in Development
New York and a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. She lives
in New York City with her husband Don and recently celebrated the birth of her
