JAMES BRINK, Ph.D.
SENIOR PRINCIPAL CONSULTANT
James T. Brink is an expert in human dynamics and
non-Western communications. He combines a background in human resources,
executive recruitment and corporate cultures with specializations in teaching,
training, facilitation and creative problem solving in educational, corporate
and intercultural contexts. He joined Results Group in 1998 to launch and lead a
recruitment division serving the for-profit sector.
He comes to Results Group after a career as a cultural anthropologist and
educator, where his research centered on the artistic expressions and material
cultures of African and Native American societies. He is considered one of the
nation’s leading experts on the arts of the Bamana peoples of Mali in West
Africa. His original field work is now housed at the Smithsonian Institution in
Washington, DC, and his work has been featured in permanent and temporary
exhibitions at that museum as well as at New York’s Museum of African Art and
the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
As an anthropologist, he published award-wining papers and research summaries,
served as a professor at Indiana University and Brooklyn College, and consulted
on field methodology, grant writing and ethnographic films. His field research
was conducted in Mali, West Africa and with the Arapahoe and Shoshone peoples at
the Wind River Native American Reservation in Wyoming. His competitive research
fellowships include four National Defense Foreign Language grants and a
Fulbright-Hays Fellowship. James Brink holds a B.A. from Wesleyan University in
Connecticut, an M.A. from the University of Chicago, a Ph. D. in social and
cultural anthropology from Indiana University and a Business Certificate from
the Graduate School of Business Administration at NYU. He also served as a
classroom teacher at the elite public New Trier High School in Winnetka,
Illinois, creating a unique secondary school history curriculum in World
Cultures and African Studies.
Prior to joining Results Group, Mr. Brink served as an independent executive
recruiter and as a human resources executive at Grey Advertising in New York
City. Working as a generalist, he rose through the ranks at Grey to become
Director of Recruiting and Vice President, Associate Director of Human Resources
at this global advertising agency. His responsibilities included policy
development and implementation, employee relations, benefits administration,
compensation, department reorganization, personnel administration, succession
planning, recruitment, employee retention and employment law. He served on the
company's Personnel Planning Council for 3 years.
Mr. Brink was raised in Nebraska, where his family lived for several generations
on the Omaha Indian reservation. Today, he divides his time between New York
City and Bucks County, Pennsylvania, where he restores vintage farm structures
and pursues organic vegetable gardening.
